Crosslinks Foundation has entered into a research collaboration with CSIR-IMMT (Institute for Minerals and Metal Technology) in Bhubaneswar to accelerate the production and popularization of biochar in India. Biochar is an effective CO2 removal technology to mitigate climate change, and is popularly used as a soil amendment to restore the health of degraded lands, and to enhance agricultural productivity. As per the agreement, Crosslinks will undertake community outreach, training and capacity building activities to promote the application of biochar on smallholder farms and other degraded lands. The two organizations will jointly undertake R&D activities to boost the production of high-quality biochar from agricultural wastes and contribute to India’s efforts to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070.
